You should replace your hot tub cover every 4 to 6 years, depending on how well it is maintained.
Hot tub covers are very useful because they keep the heat in while keeping rain and debris out. Unfortunately, though, they do wear over time and will eventually need to be replaced.
If you aren’t sure how often to replace your hot tub cover, let us help you with our quick guide.
Why bother replacing an old hot tub cover?
A damaged hot tub cover is much less effective. Heat can escape through gaps in the cover, and dirt can get into your hot tub water through those same gaps. If you’re at all uncertain about the effectiveness of your hot tub cover, then it’s probably time to look into a replacement.
How long do hot tub covers last?
Hot tub covers can last for 4 – 6 years, but your hot tub cover probably won’t last that long unless you take care of it. Proper hot tub cover maintenance involves regular tasks like cleaning with a soft cloth and applying a vinyl protectant. Your hot tub cover may also not last very long if you use a hose on it or drag it along the ground, as this can create tears in the fabric.

Should I replace my hot tub cover?
If you have had your hot tub cover for 4 years or longer, then you should probably consider replacing it. However, a hot tub cover can last longer if maintained properly.
Inspect your hot tub cover thoroughly, and replace it if you notice any of the following:
- Cracks or tears
- Waterlogged material / foam
- Not maintaining heat properly
- Mould
- Unpleasant odours
