If you were just about to hop in your tub and you see a dark cloud brewing over head, don’t fret! It is perfectly safe to use your hot tub in the rain as most modern tubs are built for all weathers. However, there are some weather conditions that can put a spanner in the works when it comes to your hot tub use – keep reading this blog to find out more!
When Should I Not Use My Hot Tub?
You should not use your hot tub if there is a thunderstorm or lightning. Hot tubs are electrical devices, and we all know how water and electricity mix – not well! A nearby lightning strike can send a lethal current through your tub and body, posing extreme electrocution risks even if the strike doesn’t hit the tub directly. If a thunderstorm starts while you are in your tub, get out carefully and stay indoors until the storm passes.
Can Rain Affect My Hot Tub?
Most modern hot tubs are made to withstand all weather conditions, however extremely heavy rain can affect the water balance in our tub and dilute chemicals. To stay on top of this, you should test your water’s pH and sanitiser levels more often during rainy periods.
Tips for a Rainy Day Soak
- Use an umbrella or gazebo to block the worst of the rain.
- Make sure you have warm robes and towels ready for when you get out!
- Check to see if your tub has a setting to protect it from excess water.
- Add some ambiance with waterproof lights and music.
- Bring a flask with a hot drink to stay toasty.
- Wear slippers or shoes with good grip to avoid slipping on wet surfaces while getting in and out of your tub.
