How Often Does a Hot Tub Need to Be Serviced?

Short answer: Hot tubs need a professional service at least once a year alongside your regular DIY maintenance.

Servicing your hot tub is essential if you want to protect your investment from expensive breakdowns, potentially dangerous bacteria growth and overall poor performance and energy-efficiency. While regular hot tub maintenance can be carried out by yourself, a professional servicing is essential if you want to keep your warranty valid and identify any minor issues before they become major, expensive problems. But how often does a hot tub need to be serviced? Keep reading this blog to find out!

How Often Should I Get My Tub Professionally Serviced?

All hot tubs need a professional service at least once a year, sometimes more than that if it is used heavily. Professional services are crucial for tasks that go beyond basic cleaning and chemical balancing, for example, the testing of all electrical components and seals, the testing of your tub’s energy-efficiency and deep cleaning of the pipework.

A well-maintained and professionally serviced hot tub will run more efficiency, use less energy and generally have a longer lifespan than a spa that is not maintained correctly.

When Should I Call for Service Sooner?

If you are experiencing any of the following problems with your hot tub and cannot find a solution in our Hot Tub Troubleshooting blog, it may be time to call for another professional service.

  • Persistent cloudy, smelly or discoloured water despite chemical balancing
  • Uneven or faulty heating
  • Unusual noises
  • Noticeable leaks around the cabinet
  • Repeated power shutdowns or control panel errors

At Premier Hot Tubs, we offer a few different hot tub service options, including:

Annual Hot Tub Service

This service must be done at least once a year to keep your warranty valid. The service includes a full chemical flush to strip out any bacteria and scale build up, followed by a full drain and external and internal clean of your tub, including the cover. Once we have refilled the spa, we will then perform a 22-point check on the hot tub, covering all major parts.

Bi- Annual Hot Tub Service

The bi-annual service covers all the same points as the annual service, plus a chemical rebalance, electrical component test and fresh heater and union seals.

Winter Shut Down

Our comprehensive winter shut down service is deal for customers who do not want to use their hot tub over the winter and need it shut down safely and effectively. Although you can prepare your hot tub for winter yourself (see our How Do I Winterise a Hot Tub? blog post), it is crucial that you drain the hot tub correctly if you want to avoid expensive damage caused by frozen water. As part of this shut down service we will also thoroughly clean your tub and perform a visual health check.
