Dirty hot tub filters can impede the water flow in your hot tub, leading to reduced pump and heater efficiency and poor water quality. Debris like body oils and lotions can build up in your filter and lead to cloudy water, algae and foam build up, resulting in a very unpleasant soaking experience.
To combat this, hot tub owners should remove the filters and rinse them weekly with a hose at 45 degrees and deep clean the filters (following the steps in this blog) every month or two to keep the hot tub running smoothly and efficiently.
Hot Tub Filter Cleaning: A Guide
Step 1: Prepare and rinse
You will want to start by turning off your hot tub’s power so that you can safely unscrew and remove the filters. You should remove any large debris like leaves or hair by hand before giving the filters a thorough rinse with a garden hose to remove surface dirt and debris.
Top Tip: Use a high pressure nozzle to clean between the pleats and work from top to bottom for the most effective rinse!
Step 2: Soak
For the next step, you will need to find a clean bucket that is large enough to completely submerge the filters. Once you have filled the bucket with water, add the recommended amount of hot tub filter cleaner, following the product’s instructions. The filter can then be left to soak evenly overnight.
Step 3: Rinse and dry
After the filters have finished soaking, they can be removed from the cleaning solution and rinsed with fresh water. You will want to make sure all of the cleaner has been thoroughly rinsed away as any residual amounts leftover can cause foaming your tub. Once the filters have been rinsed, ensure that they are completely dry before you reinstall them and turn your hot tub’s power back on.
There you have it! By following these 3 easy steps you can deep clean your hot tub filters and keep your hot tub water crystal clear and hygienic for your next soak!
