hot tub left unattended

With summer fast approaching, you may be wondering whether you can leave your hot tub unattended while you're away on holiday.

We have all the answers you need in this blog answering this exact question, including some maintenance tips to follow before you jet off!

Can I Leave My Hot Tub Unattended?

The short answer is: yes, you can leave your hot tub unattended for up to two weeks! Of course, this depends on how long you plan on being away for and whether you have an established hot tub maintenance routine.

It's important to consistently and frequently maintain your hot tub, as it can easily become unsanitary and become a home for growing bacteria.

Saying this, it is possible to leave your hot tub unattended without any consequences, but only for up to two weeks, and as long as you follow our pre-holiday maintenance tips below.

I'm Going Away For Over 2 Weeks - What Do I Do?

If you are going away for more than two weeks and you are unable to follow the maintenance tips below, it is recommended that you drain and winterise your hot tub in preparation for the unattended period.

How to Winterise Your Hot Tub

To winterise your hot tub, you will need to turn off your spa and drain it completely. You will also need to clean any filter cartridges and air blowers.

This is done to prepare your hot tub for a period of non-use, and to avoid damage to the internal systems of your spa.

What to Do If You're Not Using Your Hot Tub

If you are not using your hot tub for an extended period of time, follow these steps:

1. Invest in a Hot Tub Cover

Always have a hot tub cover to hand if you plan on taking extended holidays away from your property. It is also important to lock your hot tub cover to prevent any dirt, debris or insects from getting into your hot tub while you are away.

2. Use a Chemical Sanitizer

A hot tub chlorine sanitizer will kill any bacteria and viruses present in your hot tub, and it will also keep the water clean while you're gone.

3. Give Your Water a Shock

Always shock your hot tub water to remove old chemicals and bacteria.

4. Check and Test

When you're back from your period away, test and check your hot tub's water quality with hot tub test strips

After this, take any action necessary to adjust the chemicals accordingly to the correct levels.
