How to clean a hot tub
Here is a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to clean a hot tub. Just follow every step, and your hot tub will be clean enough to use.
1. Drain the hot tub
This will expose the surface of the hot tub so that you can give it a good deep clean. Draining the hot tub is a necessary process before you start cleaning it, but you can also use this first step to get a head-start on cleaning. If you add Premier Flush Cleaner to the water before you drain the hot tub, this will run through the hot tub and help to eradicate calcium grime and dirt from the pipes that you cannot see.

2. Remove and clean any hot tub accessories
Whether you have a hot tub cover, hot tub headrests, a bar, or steps - now is an excellent opportunity for you to take all of your hot tub accessories and give them a good clean. Some accessories can be cleaned using a mix of warm water and mild detergent, however we do offer some specialist cleaning solutions for certain parts of your hot tub.
For example, our Premier Vinyl Cleaner Cover Protect & Shine Solution can be used on your hot tub cover to repel oils, dirt, dust, and mildew. As an added benefit, this solution also acts as an SPF for your hot tub cover, protecting it from UV rays and minimising fade!
3. Clean the interior of the hot tub

Now that all the accessories have been removed and the water has been drained, you can begin cleaning the inside surfaces of your hot tub. There are special cleaning solutions that you can use that won't leave a residue behind. Here at Premier Hot Tubs, we offer a 1ltr bottle of our Hot Tub Surface Cleaner (shown above) at a really reasonable price, so you'll get plenty of cleaning sessions done before you need to go back and re-purchase!

4. Remove and clean the filters
The filters in a hot tub play an important role in the removal of dust and debris. Over time, they will become clogged up, so it's important that you take the time to remove, clean, and/or replace them. Most filters can be rinsed under a tap or hose pipe, which should remove the worst of the residue.
You can then scrub the area inside the hot tub where the filters sit, which will ensure that it's nice and clean when you put the filters back in. Some filters will need to be sat in an oil-cutting solution to help (you guessed it) cut through the oils. You should check the instruction in your manufacturer's manual if you are unsure if your filters require this step.
Once you're happy that all oil and dirt have been removed from the filters, soak them in an appropriate solution. This will disinfect the filters further and help to remove any small particles of dirt/grime that you may have missed. 5. Re-fill the hot tub
And that's it! Once you've completed all of these steps, you can focus on re-filling your hot tub. Start by filling your hot tub with water, so that the water reaches the designated water line. We recommend putting the hose pipe into the filter housing so that the water runs through your freshly cleaned filters as it enters the tub. This will ensure the water in your hot tub is as clean as it possibly can be.
Switch the power back on to get your hot tub up and running. You should leave the hot tub running for a few minutes before you start to add chemicals to the water. Listen to the hot tub during this initial running period to see if you can hear any usual noises. If you can, switch the hot tub off straight away and check that everything has been re-installed properly. It could be that you've not inserted the filter properly, or you've left the fastenings of your hot tub cover a little loose. Just make sure everything is as it should be before you proceed.
Once the water is in, you can start to add the chemicals that your hot tub needs. The chemicals you need to add to your hot tub will vary depending on the model and your own preference. Some people prefer chlorine, while others prefer bromine. Either way, you need to make sure the pH has been properly balanced and that the shock agent and sanitiser have been added in the necessary quantities.
