The primary difference between 32 Amp and 13 Amp hot tubs is their power capacity and the speed at which they can heat up and operate. Want to learn more? Let’s break it down!

Power

13 Amp Hot Tub

13 Amp hot tubs (often called "Plug and Play" hot tubs) are designed to be plugged directly into a standard three-pronged plug socket, requiring no extra electrical work or wiring.

32 Amp Hot Tub

32 Amp hot tubs require a dedicated 32 Amp electrical supply and installation by a professional electrician – they cannot just be plugged into a normal wall socket.

Heating Performance

13 Amp Hot Tub

Since they run as part of a standard household circuit, 13 Amp hot tubs typically have a lower power output, meaning they are often slower to heat and can only power a limited number of jets or features at once. You may find that it takes several hours to get the water to your desired temperatures.

32 Amp Hot Tub

32 Amp hot tubs can handle a lot more power, meaning they can heat up quickly and support more features running simultaneously like multiple jets, lights, pumps and control panels. You should be able to get the water heated up in 1-3 hours, depending on the size of the tub and the outside temperature.

Installation & Costs

13 Amp Hot Tub

These hot tubs tend to be smaller with fewer requirements, making them easier to fit in small spaces. Plus, as these tubs can be plugged into a standard socket, they can be installed without needing a professional electrician or major electrical work, making them cheaper to install. These tubs also tend to be cheaper to buy and run than 32 Amp hot tubs, however are not quite as energy-efficient.

32 Amp Hot Tub

32 Amp hot tubs tend to be larger with more additional features and so therefore can cost a considerable amount more than 13 Amp tubs. Plus, they require a dedicated 32 Amp circuit and a professional electrician to install, further raising the costs. 32 Amp tubs also tend to cost more to run, but in return you get a more powerful, faster-heating and luxurious experience.

Which Tub Should You Choose?

Go for a 13 Amp hot tub if:

  • You’re looking for something budget-friendly and easy to install.
  • You have limited space and need a smaller tub.
  • You don’t mind slower heating times and fewer features.

Go for a 32 Amp hot tub if:

  • You want a larger, more powerful tub with faster heating times.
  • You plan on using the tub regularly and need something that can handle heavy use.
  • You don’t mind paying more for installation and running costs.
